SF CAKE PICNIC
at The Legion of Honor
Join us for a special CAKE PICNIC at the Legion of Honor to celebrate Wayne Thiebaud: Art Comes from Art! Inspired by Thiebaud’s iconic cake paintings, this community event invites the San Francisco Bay Area to bring a cake and picnic on the museum’s lawn, creating a living tribute to his love of art and joyful color. We are excited to follow his style and make our cake buffet dreams a reality. Let's eat cake!
WHEN: Saturday, March 29 10-12PM
WHERE: The Legion of Honor, San Francisco CA (100 34th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94121)
CAKE PICNIC is a gathering for the love of cake. It celebrates cake in all of its forms. It brings communities and friends together for the sole purpose of breaking cake and enjoying the following butter and sugar highs. To be surrounded by as many cakes as there are humans is definitely something special, right? It is a moment in time where we come together for something truly sweet.

EVENT SCHEDULE
I will try to follow this schedule as closely as possible but depending on flow/traffic/arrivals, there will be some slight changes real-time, as needed. Thank you for your patience, understanding, flexibility, and grace.
9:30 - 10:00 AM: ARRIVAL AND PARKING
Parking at The Legion of Honor will be limited. I highly recommend using public transportation (bus, Uber, Lyft) and arriving early. You might want to ask friends or family to drop you off. I want to make sure you are checked in and your cake is at the table by the time we start!
10:00 - 11:00 AM: EVENT CHECK IN
Everyone arrives and checks in to enter the event. Line up to reach the check-in table and show the following FIVE required items. If you do not have all five, you can not participate. This applies to every single attendee. Each attendee needs all five of the following items below. No exceptions. Please plan to arrive early and on time as we want to make sure your cake is at the tables before we start!
Squarespace ticket confirmation email. After purchasing your ticket(s), an email confirmation will be sent to your email. Please bring a copy of this email to the event - either a print out or on your mobile phone. If you purchased tickets for a group, only 1 email is needed and the group must check-in together.
Matching ID with the Squarespace confirmation email. If your ID doesn’t match the Squarespace ticket confirmation, we can NOT honor it. If you purchased tickets for a group, only the ID of the purchaser is required.
Your whole cake(s). Must be bigger than 6 inches. Please bring cake that you love and want to share with others. We don’t want any bad cakes and just want to feast on the best things possible.
Cake label. Bring a label for your cake with the title of your cake with major allergens listed (i.e. Roasted peanut chiffon cake with black sesame buttercream — nuts, dairy). We recommend using/creating something like this. We will not be providing cake labels at the event. We will NOT accept cakes with no labels.
Cake server. Bring a server that is wide, flat blade to be used for cutting and lifting pieces of cake. Please note that we can not admit anyone without a server.
11:00 - 11:10 AM: Event welcome and overview
11:10 - 12:00 PM: Let’s eat cake! Groups will be called on to grab cake slices for their pastry boxes. Please be courteous and only grab an equivalent portion of cake to what you brought (i.e. if you brought a 16-slice cake, grab 16 equivalent slices). Once all of the groups have gone to get cake slices, the cake tables will be opened up to all for seconds and thirds - take all of the cake you want home. We don’t want any cake left! Please don’t worry about cake running out, there is always so much leftover.
12:00 PM: Cake clean up begins but you can continue to keep picnicking and enjoy The Legion of Honor lawn and museum.
